"I had the pleasure to have a portfolio review and a coaching session with Heidi and it has been a very refreshing, positive, and motivating experience. She gave me many different ideas and tips on how to improve my career as a portrait photographer and also on how to find my personal style. I have assisted her on a couple of shootings before so I knew she was a very good photographer and after these sessions, I can also say that she’s a very talented coach/teacher. She is very professional and prepared. Before the session's date, she took some time to make some researches on the documentation I sent her and she did create a great "custom made session". Last but not least, she is a listener. She listens and gives you honest and meaningful feedback and helps with all the questions that might come up.
I highly recommend her."

"The workshop was very instructive and for me, as a make-up artist, it was interesting to see how different lighting conditions affect the make-up look. I learned about the light setup as well as the functions of a camera. The topic is interesting and also very extensive so that I became curious about another workshop."

"The workshop with Heidi was super fun. The content was well prepared in the form of a presentation with accompanying illustrative examples. What surprised me was that Heidi not only taught us the theory but also let us experience the whole thing in practice. We could take pictures ourselves, guided by Heidi, and we changed the light piece by piece to show us the differences. Furthermore, we got a handout that summarised the whole topic clearly and concisely. Although I knew that Heidi is always professional and well prepared, I never thought I would learn so much. In retrospect, we got feedback on the taken pictures, which was as detailed and helpful as the workshop. I hope I will be able to participate in a further workshop soon."

Photo Editing & Skin Retouch

Photo Editing & Skin Retouch

7 HOURS + LUNCH BREAK, 5 – 7 PERSONS

The same way as natural make-up is key in nowaday’s people and fashion photography, only a natural retouch sustains and completes it. But maintaining this natural look is more difficult than over-doing it. Editing images is about decisions. I will teach you three methods and how to combine them in order to get the most natural yet clean skin result. Additionally, we’re taking care of the whole process before and after skin editing. The colour management is your signature and it transforms a snap into a professional image. We’re also looking at how to correct imperfections of the shape, the clothing, and the background. As a finish we’ll have a look at all the grey layers that help us to dodge & burn, add grain or sharpen images.

WHICH TOPICS WE’RE COVERING

  • Capture One resp. Adobe Lightroom (colour management, selection, data handling)
  • Adobe Photoshop (liquifying, colour correction, 3 different methods of skin retouch combined, dodge & burn, sharpening, grain)
  • Working on your own photography with my assistance
  • Your individual questions

Learning the Connection between Light & Make-up

The interplay of Light and Make-up

for Hair & Make-up Artists & Photographers

IN STUDIO, 7 HOURS + LUNCH BREAK, 4 PARTICIPANTS

Understanding how light works on a face is highly beneficial for both people photographers (including fashion, beauty & lifestyle) and hair & make-up artists. In portraiture, the direction of light helps to translate the shape of a face into a picture just like the make-up does by adding contours and highlights. The interplay of make-up and the light’s structure results in texture. As all these factors depend on each other and a mutual understanding leads to better team play this workshop is designed to bring photographers and hair & make-up artists into a dialogue on set. We will set up different light situations and see how they look with a variety of make-up looks to learn from each other.

WHAT’S ON THE AGENDA

  • Camera basics & photo studio introduction for the make-up artists (plus for the photo beginners)
  • Model styling with hair & make-up introduction for the photographers
  • One by one photographing with altering light settings and several touch-ups by the make-up artists

WHICH PHOTO & STUDIO KNOWLEDGE WE DEAL WITH

  • Basic camera technology
  • The effects of different light positions
  • Direct light vs. indirect light
  • Hard light vs. soft light
  • Light source sizes and light shapers
  • Different eye reflexes
  • White vs. coloured light
  • Different backgrounds

WHICH MAKE-UP & HAIR WE WORK WITH

  • Natural matt vs. glossy make-up
  • Encreased contours & highlights
  • Focus on eyes vs. focus on lips
  • Still vs. moving hairstyles
  • Dry vs. wet hairstyles

NEXT DATES & LOCATIONS

Date: due to the COVID-19 pandemic dates are announced later. However, you are welcome to make a reservation.
